Against All Energy Anywhere

One of the great afflictions of the environmentalists—Greens—everywhere is a profound lack of understanding of the role that energy plays in whether a nation prospers or just limps along, barely keeping the lights on.

A classic case is the communist paradise of North Korea that is almost completely dark at night while just across the 38th parallel, South Korea is ablaze with light, energy, and a thriving economy.

Dedicated Greens don’t really like any kind of energy whether it is nuclear, provided by burning coal, from natural gas, oil or from hydropower. They think that wind power is trouble-free and cost effective when it is neither. They feel the same way about solar power. Both are deemed acceptable because they don’t “emit” anything. This viewpoint is not merely naïve, it is profoundly stupid.

Before we go further, let’s examine the basic facts of U.S. power, give or take a percentage point or two, coal provides over 50% of electrical power. Nuclear provides around 20%, natural gas is just over 20%, hydroelectric is close to 7%, and so-called “renewables” like wind and solar are credited with about 3%. Petroleum generated electricity is 1% and “other sources”, whatever they may be, come in at around 0.3%.

These are figures from 2009 and, suffice to say, are subject to change, but not much.

Friends of the Earth, an international Green organization, (FOE) is no friend to humanity. Hardcore Greens think Earth’s problems would be solved if human beings were not part of its ecology.

Following the Japan earthquake, FOE sent an email to its members and fellow travelers saying, “We must learn from this disaster. Tell your members of Congress that nuclear power should not be part of our energy future.” Ironically, FOE is very unhappy with

UK rejects EU call for city centre ban on petrol cars

In the usual BBC fashion the BBC are getting us used to the idea of cars being a thing of the past. Of course they say they reject the idea of banning cars in Central London, but of course they have to plant the idea of no cars into our skulls, so that at a later stage they can take it to the next stage in the usual incremental way. We wouldn’t even consider the ludicrous idea otherwise, but we have to be trained like Pavlovian dogs or Skinnerian pigeons to accept this nonsense, and it has to start somewhere. The internal combustion engine is carbon-bad, unless you are one of the inbred psychopathic elites of course. We are to be herded off the rural areas and stuffed into the already overcrowded cities so we can be exterminated in the H.G. Wellsian fashion.

‘The true objection to slavery is not that it is unjust to the inferior. There is only one sane and logical thing to be done with an

How do You Spot a Future World Leader?

By: Jon Kelly
BBC News MagazineA US scheme to pinpoint future VIPs has spent 70 years introducing power-brokers-to-be to the American way. So how can you tell who will one day be a head of state?

They’re out there, somewhere, embarking on their relentless climb to the top.

The next generation of politicians, cultural pioneers, business executives and media voices are starting their first jobs, desperate to escape obscurity, determined to make a name for themselves.

All you have to do is find them.

Predicting who will one day run our lives might not be an easy task, but a little-known scheme run by the US State Department has demonstrated an uncanny capacity to pinpoint these leaders-in-waiting.

It has received little attention during its history, but since 1940 the International Visitor Leader Program (IVLP) has proved remarkably prescient when it comes to guessing who might one day govern the planet.

A history of talent-spotting

  • 1940 – US begins cultural exchanges for the first time under the guidance of Nelson Rockefeller
  • 1948: Smith-Mundt Act creates agency to “promote a better understanding of the United States in other countries, and to increase mutual understanding”
  • 1950: Foreign Leader Program established, later renamed International Visitor Program
  • 2004: name changed to International Visitor Leadership Program

As part of the highly prestigious – and expensive – programme, participants are hand-picked to spend typically three weeks visiting Washington DC and three additional towns or cities, meeting their counterparts and other VIPs and experts – all highly valuable networking experience for any ambitious young man or woman on the climb.

Of the current cabinet, some 11 members are alumni of the scheme, according to the US Embassy in London.

Former prime ministers Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Margaret Thatcher and Edward Heath were all participants early in their careers.

Nor are British heads of government the only ones to have been talent-spotted. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Zimbabwean premier Morgan Tsvangirai are among serving leaders who have passed through the project’s ranks.

In the UK alone, over 2,500 citizens have travelled to the US as part of the IVLP. But for those hoping to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, admission is strictly invitation-only.

Conspiracy theorists warn the scheme is all about an imperial power meddling in the affairs of sovereign regimes, seducing their future political leaders and moulding them into Washington-approved candidates.

“I was recommended by the US cultural attache in London who had seen some documentaries I had made. He was interested in my community activism.

“I wouldn’t say I was hostile to the US beforehand but I did have assumptions which were challenged by seeing it for myself. I met some people I’ll keep in touch with for the rest of my life.

“It was a fascinating experience. I was particularly lucky to get to meet Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s senior adviser on

Radiation Traces Found in U.S. Milk

The Wall Street Journal reports (, the U.S. government has now admitted that radiation is being found in milk from Washington state. They say it’s “safe” to drink, of course. That’s the U.S. government for you: Irradiated milk is safe, but raw milk is dangerous!

Oil industry expert Ian R Crane’s Shocking Video Argues The Deepwater Horizon Disaster Is Just Beginning

Ian R Crane, a former oil industry executive and now a lecturer in geopolitics, provides unique insights into events leading up to the rig explosion in his new DVD presentation ‘‘BP – Population Reduction and the End of an Age’. He warns of a BP legacy which will affect health and food supplies for many years to come.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) August 24, 2010

Is it really the case that the most serious aspect of the Deepwater Horizon incident was the death of eleven people when the rig initially blew up? Ian R Crane, a former high-ranking oilfield executive begs to differ in a DVD of his latest presentation, which reveals what really is beneath the surface of this tragedy. The title of this far-reaching evidence-based documentary can only hint at the reality: it is called ‘BP – Population Reduction and the End of an Age’.

Quote start“Ian R Crane was outspoken enough when he worked inside the oil industry, it’s good to see that he doesn’t let industry loyalty stand in his way when seeking out the truth.”Quote end
On 19 April 2010, geopolitics researcher and lecturer Ian R Crane sent out his monthly newsletter (note 1) warning his readers to

The Gulf of Mexico Disaster … Tragedy & Travesty!

Where is Bob Kaluza?

Shaun Clarke Kaluza's AttorneyAlmost one year after the Deepwater Horizon Disaster, BP Company Man Robert (Bob) Kaluza has still failed to give evidence to the Gulf Coast Investigative Panel. There are two reason for this:
1). Bok Kaluza pleaded the 5th Amendment.

The photgraph (right) shows Shaun Clarke, Kaluza’s Attorney, challenging a question at the GC Hearing in October 2010.
2). Republicans in the Senate blocked the  legislative process which would have given the Gulf Coast Hearing the power of Subpeona.
During the third reading, an exasperated Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) asks, “Who are we protecting? What are we hiding here?”

Tonight in On The Edge (8pm – Sky Channel 200), host Alex:G interviews former Schlumberger Executive Ian R Crane, drilling down into the murky depths of what really transpired on the Deepwater Horizon in the days leading up to this disaster and uncovers disturbing facts that have not yet been addressed by any other investigators. Why is it that Bob Kaluza has refused to testify before the Gulf Coast Hearing? Who is HE proecting? What does HE have to hide?
Andrew Gould
As a former Schlumberger Executive (1979-1998), Crane is deeply disturbed by the silence ofAndrew Gould , CEO: Schlumberger (photo right). Schlumberger Engineers advised Bob Kaluza that the well was unstable and was at serious risk. Why did the inexperienced Kaluza ignore the advice of experienced logging engineers? The Schlumberger Engineers left the rig at 11:00am on the morning of 20th April in circumstances that have yet to be explained!

The Conspiracy of Silence is prima facie evidence of a Corporatist agenda that demands ‘Profit before People.

A Poisoned Bio-sphere

Lisa NelsonBP have openly admitted to pumping, pouring and spraying in excess of 1.1 million gallons of Corexit. This highly toxic dispersant was used by BP to break up the surface slick and sink the oil beneath trhe surface. A tactic that reduced BP’s potential compensation liabilities but also made it near impossible to remove the oil from the Gulf of Mexico. The sub-surface slick is killing all marine life and is destroying the health and slowly killing many thousands of Gulf Coast residents. The Oil/Corexit cocktail is giving off highly noxious fumes which get into the blood stream when breathed and attack red blood corpusles. Lisa Nelson (pictured right) became another BP victim just three weeks ago, on 7th March 2011.

Gulf Fish Kill
The entire Gulf Coast economy is in Meltdown thanks to the combined effects of the Deepwater Horizon diaster and the manipulated global financial crash. Nobody in their right mind should be buying seafood contaminated by the Oil/Corexit mix and the downturn in demand would certainly indicate this to be the case. Indeed, a recent Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board survey found 70 percent of people are still nervous about eating Gulf seafood. (No sh*t!).However, it would seem that the US Government doesn’t consider the health of Military personnal (or their families) to be a priority. In February it was announced that fish, shrimp, oysters, crab cakes, and packaged Cajun dishes such as jambalaya and shrimp etouffee are being promoted at 72 base commissaries along the East Coast! Some Gulf Coast Shrimpers and Fishermen have stated that they will never return to their profession as they do not want to be responsible for the potential consequences to the health of their fellow Americans. But with BP and the Federal Government effectively turning their back on Gulf Coast Communities, others feel they have no choice other than to take return to their nets … regardless of the consequences!

Product placement is an attractive proposition for brands because it drives people’s behaviour by normalising those actions (or products) in the eyes of the viewer.

Environmentalists need to take a similar approach in the drive to change people’s behaviour in order to prevent climate change. If we see our favourite characters in Coronation Street recycling, or see Brad Pitt riding a bike everywhere in a film, or see Simon Cowell in his mansion with solar panels in the background, we are much more likely to consider that behaviour aspirational and desirable. This type of campaigning is therefore more effective at changing behaviour than, for example, taking out posters on buses telling people how much carbon they can save by ditching their cars.

We know from our own campaigns at Global Cool that most people want to know what’s in it for them (being as cool and sexy as Brad Pitt, for example) rather than what’s in it for the planet. Does that matter? Absolutely not. Getting people to change their behaviour to reduce carbon emissions is the aim, not getting them to believe in climate change and become eco warriors. We’ll need to make taking the bus just as aspirational as driving a car, and if we need Brad Pitt’s help to do that, that’s fine.

Global Cool is delighted to be working with the British Independent Film Awards to promote green living. Over the coming year we will be working together to develop an initiative that will deliver essential advice and information to film makers on how they can harness the powerful influence of their films to inspire their audience to take positive steps towards a greener lifestyle. In 2009, the UK Film Council reported that UK cinema attendance had reached a seven-year high, with 173.5 million box office admissions. We want to leverage the potential of that reach and empower film makers with the knowledge and insight that can make a real difference in helping to create a more environmentally friendly society.

03.30.11 Obama Authorizes Secret Support for Libya Rebels

By: Mark Hosenball

March 30, 2011 “Reuters” — WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama has signed a secret order authorizing covert U.S. government support for rebel forces seeking to oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, government officials told Reuters on Wednesday.

Obama signed the order, known as a presidential “finding”, within the last two or three weeks, according to four U.S. government sources familiar with the matter.

Such findings are a principal form of presidential directive used to authorize secret operations by the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA and the White House declined immediate comment.

News that Obama had given the authorization surfaced as the President and other U.S. and allied officials spoke openly about the possibility of sending arms supplies to Gaddafi’s opponents, who are fighting better-equipped government forces.

The United States is part of a coalition, with NATO members and some Arab states, which is conducting air strikes on Libyan government forces under a U.N. mandate aimed at protecting civilians opposing Gaddafi.

In interviews with American TV networks on Tuesday, Obama said the objective was for Gaddafi to “ultimately step down” from

Orwell 2011 – Towards a Pervasive “Surveillance State” in America

Not since AT&T whistleblower Marc Klein’s 2006 revelations that U.S. telecommunications giants were secretly collaborating with the government to spy on Americans, has a story driven home the point that we are confronted by a daunting set of invisible enemies: the security and intelligence firms constellating the dark skies of the National Security State.

As echoes from last month’s disclosures by the cyber-guerrilla collective Anonymous continue to reverberate, leaked HBGary emails and documents are providing tantalizing insight into just how little daylight there is between private companies and the government.

The latest front in the ongoing war against civil liberties and privacy rights is the Pentagon’s interest in “persona management software.”

A euphemism for a suite of high-tech tools that equip an operative–military or corporate, take your pick–with multiple avatars or sock puppets, our latter day shadow warriors hope to achieve a leg up on their opponents in the “war of ideas” through stealthy propaganda campaigns rebranded as “information operations.”

A Pervasive Surveillance State

The signs of a pervasive surveillance state are all around us. From the “persistent cookies” that track our every move across the internet to indexing dissidents already preemptively detained in public and private data bases: threats to our freedom to speak out without harassment, or worse, have never been greater.

As constitutional scholar Jack Balkin warned, the transformation of what was once a democratic republic based on the rule of law

The Root Cause of Cancer Almost Universally Ignored by Doctors…

CancerIn 1971 President Nixon and Congress declared war on cancer. So what’s happened in the 40 years since? After weeding out the hype and filling in the actual statistics, it turns out, not much.

“These summary statistics show that the war on cancer has not gone well,” says the article’s author, Reynold Spector. “This is in marked contrast to death rates from stroke and cardiovascular disease (adjusted for the age and size of the population), which have fallen by 74 percent and 64 percent, respectively, from 1950 through 2006; and by 60 percent and 52 percent, respectively, from 1975 through 2006 (Kolata 2009a).

Cancer therapy is clearly decades behind.”

Fukushima Beyond point of No Return As Radioactive Core Melts Through Containment Vessel

(NaturalNews) The battle to save the Fukushima nuclear power plant now appears lost as the radioactive core from Reactor No. 2 has melted through the containment vessel and dropped into the concrete basement of the reactor structure. This is “raising fears of a major release of radiation at the site,” reports The Guardian, which broke the story (…). A former General Electric nuclear expert told The Guardian that Japan appears to have “lost the race” to save the reactor.

The only feasible interpretation from this analysis is that radiation emissions from Fukushima could suddenly become much greater. It is also now obvious that the radioactive fallout from Fukushima will last for decades, if not centuries.

Japan’s Prime Minister Naoto Kan last night admitted the situation at Fukushima remains “unpredictable.” Meanwhile, the presence of plutonium in soil samples is proof that the nuclear fuel rods have been compromised and are releasing material into

NATO Chief Opens The Door to Libya Ground Troops – U.S. Air Power Is Given Expansive Role in Libya

NATO Chief Opens The Door to Libya Ground Troops 29 Mar 2011 …The United Nations Security Council Resolution authorizing the war [in Libya] explicitly rules out any “occupation” forces. But leave it to the top military officer of NATO, which takes over the war on Wednesday, to add an asterisk to that ban. During a Senate hearing on Tuesday, Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island asked Adm. James Stavridis about NATO putting forces into “post-Gadhafi” Libya to make sure the country doesn’t fall apart. Stavridis said he “wouldn’t say NATO’s considering it yet.” But because of NATO’s history of putting peacekeepers in the Balkans — as pictured above — “the possibility of a stabilization regime exists.”

U.S. Air Power Is Given Expansive Role in Libya 29 Mar 2011 Even as President Obama on Monday described a narrower role for the United States in a NATO-led operation in Libya, the American military has been carrying out an expansive and increasingly potent air campaign to compel the Libyan Army to turn against Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. The White House, the Pentagon and their European allies have given the mission the most expansive possible interpretation, amounting to an all-out assault on Libya’s military. Allied aircraft are not only dropping 500-pound bombs on Libyan troops, they are also using psychological operations to try to break their will to fight, broadcasting messages [propaganda] in Arabic and English, telling Libyan soldiers and sailors to abandon their posts and to defy Colonel Qaddafi’s orders.
